HJF is seeking a Research Data Managers to support the Data Coordinating and Analysis Center (DCAC) for the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) and the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch (EIDB) of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) located at the MHRP Office in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to DCAC.

DCAC oversees data management and analysis for the majority of MHRP and EIDB projects. The Data Management Specialist II will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the data management process in support of these projects including: data collection document instrument design; document control and storage; development, testing and maintenance of database screens; development and maintenance of data entry guidelines and coding manuals; data reconciliation and cleaning; creating research data sets; entry-level data analysis (descriptive statistics); generation and distribution of reports, tables and graphics; and, training as needed for specific studies. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and maintain data entry screens and data management database.
  2. Develop, review, store and maintain: data management plans; data entry instructions and coding manuals; Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); case report forms and case report for annotation; form completion instructions; other department and protocol related documentation.
  3. Interact with clinical personnel to reconcile data discrepancies with the guidance of supervisor, including generating query reports, obtaining resolutions and tracking and documenting resolutions.
  4. Provides ad hoc data sets for biostatisticians as required to ensure that research needs are being met.
  5. Assist researchers in retrieving information from the databases and other data sources. Generate and distribute reports as necessary. This includes batch reports run on daily, weekly and monthly cycles; status reports; any special purpose ad hoc reports; and, basic univariate statistical analysis reports.
  6. Provide assistance and training to clinical users and data entry personnel when new protocols begin, or as new screens are added or modified.
  7. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in the understanding and execution of Data Management and Data Entry procedures; experience with relational databases; proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to learn new data management software programs necessary for job completion; knowledge of statistical data set creation for data analysis; must be detail-oriented and possess problem solving skills; must have excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high quality deliverables on time; and must be able to work independently and as part of a team setting.  

Preferred Skills: Experience using REDCap, experience with clinical database management, experience with SAS, STATA, R, SPSS, and/or PYTHON.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Computer science, information system management, data science or public health.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 3-5 years of minimum level work-related experience required to effectively perform the job’s responsibilities.
