HJF is seeking a Research Assistant III/ Laboratory Technician to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institue of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.
Responsible for day-to-day management of the laboratory. Assigns and assures that research assistants and students conduct laboratory responsibilities. Maintains inventories and orders supplies. Maintains and manages equipment. Responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects relating to HIV-1 vaccine basic research and adjuvant research. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff. Works in support of projects on the development of antibodies to HIV-1, immunological assays and the mechanism of adjuvants.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to work independently with only overall project consultation with supervisor; good communication, analytical and computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
Minimum Experience: 4-6 years laboratory experience after BS degree in biochemistry or immunology laboratory; Experience with ELISA, and cell culture is helpful, but not essential.
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Summer student work and approval of students’ time.
Work Environment: Laboratory environment.
Background: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to pass a NACI background.
