HJF is seeking Research Assistant to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP. 

The incumbent will be responsible for research and development in the Laboratory of Vaccine Immunology. Research will focus on analysis of HIV vaccine-elicited immune responses and neutralizing antibody responses. Some assays will be performed using Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP); efforts will support the development and maintenance of the Humoral Immunology GCLP laboratory. Will provide laboratory and technical support to senior staff as directed.


  1. Performs HIV neutralization assays and other relevant functional antibody assays, ELISAs, and maintains cell cultures, in a research and GCLP-compliant environment. (25%)
  2. Perform biochemical assays relating to Phage-Display library production and QC. (15%)
  3. Maintains appropriate documentation and accurate records. (15%)
  4. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation. Utilizes databases for resource and data tracking. (10%)
  5. Develops standard operating procedures and test methods. (10%)    
  6. Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment. (10%)
  7. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean. (5%)
  8. Attends laboratory meetings and job-related trainings. (5%)
  9. Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. (2%)
  10. Performs other duties as assigned. (3%)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills. Must know how to calculate concentrations and dilutions. Must have a willingness to assist with lab maintenance, regularly. 

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.

Minimum Experience:  0- 2 years of laboratory experience.

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals and infectious Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

Work Environment: Laboratory setting.

Background: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to pass a NACI background.
