The Research Assistant/ Student will support the Laboratory of Antigen and Adjuvant Research (LAAR) within the US Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) located in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.

Responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff.


  1. Performs laboratory research projects and experiments, including collection and organization of data.  Makes detailed observations about experiments.
  2. Conducts ELISA and antibody function assay son animal and human serum or plasma.
  3. Assists with preparation of liposomes and vaccine preparations.
  4. Preforms assays to measure the binding affinities of antibodies to antigens. 
  5. Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  6. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
  7. Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.
  8. Graphs and calculates data.
  9. Completes all required training and works in a safe manner following all safety regulations.
  10. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
  11. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High school diploma and enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline

Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years laboratory experience

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals

Work Environment: Laboratory environment

Background: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to pass a NACI background.
