HJF is seeking a Bioinformatics Research Assistant III/ Administrative Liaison position to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP), located in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience working with UNIX/Linux environment. Proficiency with Perl and/or Python as evidenced by scripts hosted on Github or similar websites.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates with experience with next generation sequencing platform and cluster or cloud based analysis will be given preference.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelors degree in computational biology or bioinformatics or computer science or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience with expertise in manipulation and analysis of large data sets, including assembly of genomes, analysis of sequences, related studies.
Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience. Fresh graduates may be considered.
Physical Capabilities: Job performance requires long periods of sitting at a computer. Must possess adequate vision and manual dexterity for computer work. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and move within the Program’s research sites.
Supervisory Controls: The incumbent will be under the supervision of senior personnel at MHRP.
Work Environment: General office environment.
Other: Work is performed entirely in support of a Federal sponsored Cooperative Agreement and therefore is dependent solely on the ability of the Federal Government to fund the agreement. Position will terminate in the absence or withdrawal of Federal funds.
Background: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to pass a NACI background.
